Textile protection on the Costa del Sol: what to expect and how to care for it
What protectors aim to offer fine-fibre carpets and rugs, with product-specific curing advice and spill care for Sunbrella upholstery.
Protection aims to delay spill penetration in fine-fibre carpets and rugs
Protectors for fine-fibre carpets and rugs aim to delay spill penetration and slow soiling.
Start with a suitable clean or new textile
Prestige Care may assess a suitable clean or new textile for [textile protection](/services/textile-protection), either as a standalone treatment or after professional cleaning.
For carpets and rugs made from moisture-sensitive plant or regenerated fibres, too much protector can distort the pile or affect colour; too little can reduce its effectiveness.
Check the carpet or rug warranty before further treatment
Before arranging further protection for a carpet or rug, check the manufacturer's warranty. Some manufacturers say a protective treatment may void it.
Check when you can use the textile again
Before using the textile again, check the instructions for the protector used. Sunbrella Restore specifies 12–24 hours of curing, depending on temperature. Fabric treated with it must be protected from rain and dew until the treatment is fully cured. Do not assume that 12–24 hours is the fabric's drying time or the time to wait before using a textile treated with a different protector.
Blot spills on Sunbrella upholstery—do not rub
Attend to spills on Sunbrella upholstery promptly and blot rather than rub. Stain removal is not guaranteed if spills are left untreated. For a different textile, follow its own care instructions rather than assuming Sunbrella's guidance applies.
Review protection rather than automatically reapply it
For Sunbrella fabrics, it may be worth considering appropriate retreatment after repeated thorough cleaning or years of use and exposure. Do not treat that advice as a fixed schedule for other textiles. If you are considering protection for a suitable clean or new textile, [request a care assessment](/request-care).
